Lefroy Brooks XO

Lefroy Brooks XO

harold brierley invented stainless steel in sheffield, england in 1913. like many innovations it was discovered by chance. it is essentially an alloy of chromium and steel and is thus extremely hard while resistant to corrosion or rusting. i chose the material for the xo range for three diverse reasons. firstly it is intrinsically honest – a solid steel with no superficial cover or plating. there is nothing to wear out or wear off. it is extremely hard and hard wearing. secondly it is pure with no contaminants. it has for fifteen years been the compulsory material for taps or faucets in the food and drink industries and is the material of choice in hospitals. i believe in the future it will become the norm for domestic taps as legislation continues to eliminate lead and other toxic substances from brassware. lastly aesthetically its solidity and purity shine through – it feels right and looks good.
